The advantage to the Brewer of the Maisonneuve Stainless Steel Cask are numerous and can be itemised as follows.
MANUFACTURE The cask is produced from High Tensile strength 304 Stainless Steel, which is Deep-Drawn into two shells that require only one circumferential weld, unlike the Fabricated Cask which has two circumferential and one vertical weld. Fewer welds assists in the sterilization of the Cask. The Deep-Drawing of the process assists in hardening the material for added strength over that of the fabricated Stainless Steel Cask which is an advantage to the Brewer in Reducing Revenue expenditure on repairs. |

SHIVE PLATE The Shive Plate is welded onto the external surface of the Cask which is another advanage over that of the Fabricated Cask which has the Shive Plate welded onto the internal surface of the Cask |
By having the Shive Plate welded onto the internal surface of the Cask, as with the Fabricated designed cask, can under certain circumstances, if the weld fractures, trap beer between the two surfaces, causing Beer Quality Problems. In addition this is an area that can not satisfactorily be sterilized. In addition through the Deep-Drawn process of the Maisonneuve Cask the surface area of the Shive Bush is flattened, this provides excellent drainage on Washing and eliminates any carryover and loss of Detergent, so assisting in reducing Revenue costs on Cask Washing. |
| The Shive Bush is also recessed below the profile of the Rolling Rings to avoid any pick up of soil onto the face of the Shive (Plastic or Wooden) when the Cask is rolled into an account. This assists in eliminating a potential source of infection when the cask is tapped. | |
DESIGN The Maisonneuve Cask has been designed to achieve full compatibility with existing Aluminium 9 Gallon Firkins, which are still widely used by many UK Brewers. The advantages to the Brewer on having full compatibility are numerous for Storage, Handing and Safety. |

ADVANTAGES OF STAINLESS STEEL OVER ALUMINIUM The Aluminium Cask & Keg have been of value to the Industry and have given excellent service, however with Technological advances and with the introduction of the Deep Drawn process for Stainless Steel, there are now definite advantages over Aluminium. Better Capital Investment as the life of a Stainless Steel Keg/ Cask is far greater than that of Aluminium No internal lining for the Stainless Cask/ Keg, unlike the Aluminium which has an internal coating to insulate the Beer from direct contact with the Aluminium surface. On the older Aluminium containers, although externally the condition can appear satisfactory, the internal surface on many casks, especially those that have been de-wooded by the Traditional method will show that the lining has broken down causing areas of Pitting and Corrosion. This in turn effects the Beer Quality and increases the potential for Aluminium pick up into the Beer. The areas that are pitted and corroded can not be satisfactorily sterilized or repaired.

KEYSTONE DESIGN Maisonneuve offer two designs of Keystone which are |
| Maisonneuve Patent Keystone. This has been built into the wall of the Chimb. This provides improved fitting of the keystone (Plastic or Wooden). It also assists on Dispense and improves Safety of Handling. In addition for this design of Keystone the gauge of the Chimb is 2mm for added strength. |
| Traditional Standard Keystone. As the title suggests this keystone is the traditional design. to assist those Brewers who are seeking to reduce Capital Expenditure. |
